Writers who use AI are having a strange time. The tools have changed how a lot of people write, plan and edit, yet saying so out loud can get you mocked, shut out of groups, or accused of not being a "real" writer. Many people now hide how they work, just to be left alone.
We think that's the wrong way round. AI is a tool, like the typewriter and the spellchecker before it. The ideas, the choices and the heart of a story still come from the person writing it. So we built a place where you don't have to hide.
A library, not a confession booth
FreeLibrary.ai is a free library of novels and serials written with AI. Anyone can read without an account. Authors publish their books, and readers browse, follow, review and make reading lists, as on any other reading site.
The difference is that here, using AI isn't something to explain away. It's simply how the book was made, and we say so on every book.
Every book says how it was made
When you publish, you choose an honest label:
- AI-assisted: you wrote it; AI helped with ideas, planning, editing or polish.
- Co-written with AI: AI drafted parts, and you shaped, rewrote and edited them.
- AI-generated, author-directed: AI wrote most of the text from your plans, characters and choices.
Readers always know what they're picking up, and nobody has to guess or accuse.
What we promise
- AI is welcome, whether it wrote a sentence or helped with a whole draft.
- Open, not hidden: we show how each book was made, because there's nothing to be ashamed of.
- Your work is yours: you keep the rights to what you publish here.
- Kindness first: no pile-ons and no harassment, whatever tools anyone uses.
Come and fill the shelves
We're just opening, so the shelves are new. If you've written something with AI, a finished novel, a serial in progress or a short story, we'd love to have it. Publish your book here: upload a Word file, an EPUB or plain text, and it's on the shelves in minutes.
And if you'd rather read, sign up for the newsletter and we'll tell you when new books arrive.
