Library rules
Welcome. Here's how we keep this place good.
FreeLibrary.ai is a library for every writer, and a place where people who create with AI don't have to hide. These rules keep it good for authors and readers alike.
1. AI is welcome, in any amount
Whether AI helped with one sentence or drafted the whole book from your plans, you belong here. Nobody gets mocked for their tools.
2. Label your book honestly
Every book shows how it was made. When you publish, choose the label that's true:
- Written without AI: you wrote it without AI.
- AI-assisted: you wrote it, and AI helped with ideas, planning, editing or polish.
- Co-written with AI: AI drafted parts, and you shaped, rewrote and edited them.
- AI-generated, directed by you: AI wrote most of the text from your plans, characters and choices.
There's no wrong answer, only a dishonest one. The Studio also shows readers its own record of how the book was written.
3. Publish only what's yours to publish
- Your own work, written with or without AI, is welcome.
- Don't publish other people's writing, or text that copies it.
- If your book is in Kindle Unlimited (KDP Select), use Sample only: Amazon allows up to 10% of the book elsewhere, and the Studio keeps to that for you.
4. Every heat level is welcome, labelled honestly
Romance, desire and erotica are welcome. Choose the heat level that fits: Sweet, Warm, Steamy or Explicit (18+). Any book with sex scenes on the page must be labelled Explicit.
- Everyone can see an Explicit book's cover, title and description, but only signed-in readers who have confirmed they're 18 or over and turned Explicit books on can read it. Explicit books can't enter contests, and their chapters are kept out of search engines.
- Everyone in a sexual scene is an adult, and clearly written as one.
- No sexual content involving animals, real people, or sexual violence written to glorify it.
- Covers never show sex or nudity, on any book, Explicit ones included. Keep covers suitable for anyone to see.
5. No hate, harassment or harm
- No content that attacks people for who they are.
- No sexual or damaging content about real, identifiable people.
- Nothing illegal, and no instructions for hurting people.
Dark themes in fiction are fine. Villains can be villains. What isn't fine is using a story to target real people.
6. Kindness first
No pile-ons, no harassment, no hunting people for using AI. That goes for everyone, whatever tools they use.
7. Your Studio is private
8. Reports and removals
Every book and chapter has a Report link. Reports are private, and readers don't need an account to send one. We review every report. If a book breaks these rules, we remove it from the Library, and it stays safe in its author's Studio. Authors who think we got it wrong can ask us to look again.
